Reuven Feuerstein taught us that emotion and cognition are the two sides of the same coin and the coin is transparent. Surprisingly, go after cognition. Most of the western world advocates for talk therapy for help for emotions and some of those methods can certainly help. For teachers in the classroom professional therapy is not an option for many children who need help ASAP. With the Feuerstein program, a cognitive skills approach provides improvement in executive functioning. The classroom teachers in this picture spent a week in Feuerstein training to use in small or large groups, for students who have had trauma, have learning challenges, or are even typical or gifted learners. Everyone gains from this amazing approach - the missing piece in education. By teaching children to learn HOW to learn, they have tools to handle challenges from the past, present, or future.
