The Science Behind our Programs

MINDCAP takes advantage of the brain’s neuroplasticity, the amazing ability to make new connections between brain cells (neurons) by growing new branches (dendrites). Neuroplasticity only occurs when the brain encounters novelty and challenge, like tackling something new that is just a bit difficult, which results in the brain growing new dendrites. Practicing a newly acquired skill gained through challenge also builds up a coating of insulation (myelin) on each neuron so that messages can move faster through the newly forged neural network. New neural networks and dendritic connections can grow — in everyone!

MINDCAP coaching is useful to people of all ages- from preschool children to professionals to the elderly. Through MINDCAP coaching, everyone can improve their cognition, regardless of what the cause of an individual's cognitive challenge might be. MINDCAP coaching has proven beneficial to individuals with:

  • ADD/ADHD
  • Autism
  • Attachment Disorder
  • Addiction
  • Age-related cognitive decline
  • Genetic conditions
  • Giftedness
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • and more

Why have I not heard of it before?

Many people have not heard about this form of cognitive intervention because it was introduced into the United States relatively recently. Also, many treatment modalities focus on treating symptoms, rather than correcting the problems at the source.

Why doesn't my specialist know about this type of treatment?

Many specialists were trained to believe that once injured or impaired, the brain's ability to heal is extremely limited. Therefore, they teach their patients to find cognitive "work-arounds" to their deficits.

If it is so effective, why is it not more commonly used?

The best solutions and treatments are not always the most well-known or popular. Alternative treatments in many areas of healthcare, despite having been available for hundreds/thousands of years, are only recently being recognized and accepted as effective by mainstream healthcare providers.

Can it really work on so many cognitive deficits?

In our experience, MINDCAP coaching has made significant and dramatic impacts on cognitive challenges caused by a variety of etiologies. While we understand that the duration and severity of some cognitive issues makes dramatic improvement more of a challenge, we have had very impressive results with people who had formerly resigned themselves to a life-time of impaired functioning.

We invite family members and people with cognitive challenges to stay hopeful and experience the results of MINDCAP coaching.
